EcoCurve: An Energy Efficient Dryer

Minimizing Energy Consumption and Noise Pollution

EcoCurve is an intelligent, environmentally friendly hand dryer developed to minimize energy consumption and noise pollution. With its unique features and innovative technology, this design offers a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to paper towels.

Paper towels contribute to 2% of total landfill waste in the USA. To address this issue, hand dryers have become popular in corporate and commercial environments, reducing paper towel consumption and maintenance costs. However, traditional dryers often use power-hungry motors and heating elements, consuming up to 2300W of energy. Additionally, these dryers have not evolved to utilize new materials, resulting in ungainly designs and noise pollution. Furthermore, poor maintenance can lead to dust accumulation and bacterial growth.

EcoCurve, designed by HJC Design, stands out with its super-efficient digital brushless motor that dries hands in just 11 seconds, resulting in a cost saving of 99% compared to paper towels. The patented compression and heat recovery system combines new and recirculated air to increase its overall temperature before being accelerated to deliver heat straight to the hands. This intelligent design not only ensures quick and efficient drying but also reduces energy consumption.

One of the key features of EcoCurve is its inbuilt energy monitoring system, which wirelessly reports usage to building management servers. This real-time information allows for better energy allocation and management, further minimizing consumption. By utilizing this technology, businesses can make informed decisions to reduce their environmental impact.

The design of EcoCurve also prioritizes sustainability. All major components are injection molded from recycled ABS and PC/ABS blends, incorporating antimicrobial additives to protect against bacteria. The use of threaded inserts has been minimized to allow for easy repair and disassembly, promoting recycling. The fitting process is simple, with a robust recycled stainless steel wall bracket ensuring a safe and rapid onsite installation.

EcoCurve's technical specifications include a width of 250mm, height of 370mm, and depth of 134mm. It features a 550W digital brushless motor in a patented compression and heat recovery system. The air is heated to 39 degrees centigrade and accelerated to 30 liters per second, drying hands in just 11 seconds. Despite its powerful performance, EcoCurve operates at an ultra-quiet noise level of 87dB, ensuring a pleasant user experience.

Throughout the design process, HJC Design applied a user-centered approach, conducting anthropometric research and testing to ensure optimal user comfort and hygiene. The EcoCurve nozzle guides the airflow directly into the palm, deterring unwanted contact and ensuring a hygienic drying experience.

EcoCurve has received numerous accolades and recognition for its outstanding design and sustainability. It has been awarded the Quiet Mark, an international mark of approval for noise reduction, and has been exhibited at the London Ideal Home show. Additionally, it was the recipient of the Silver A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects, and Green Design category in 2015. This prestigious award recognizes the design's excellence, innovation, and technical characteristics.

EcoCurve is not just a hand dryer; it is a testament to the possibilities of energy-efficient and sustainable design. With its unique features, intelligent technology, and commitment to reducing environmental impact, EcoCurve sets a new standard for hand dryers in the industry.
